Volunteers wanted in Guelph-Peel!

Posted August 14th, 2009

my world, my choice! Guelph-Peel is in the midst of mentor recruitment! We invite interested post-secondary students and young professionals in the Guelph and Mississauga areas to join us to help launch our pilot program in elementary schools for Fall 2009. The deadline for applications are August 31 – so please apply now!.

We’re not looking for experts in sustainability – in fact one of the best ways to learn about something is to teach others about it. So if you’re interested in learning more about how to make sustainable decisions and how to become a leader in sustainability, this is your chance. Some details:

  • 4 hours of training will be provided on Sat. Sept. 26 (sessions to be held in both Guelph and Mississauga)
  • Our interaction with the kids will happen during school hours – if this conflicts with your work, we may be able to help you convince your employer that this is a great professional development opportunity!
  • Total time commitment for each mentor is about 12 hours over 8 weeks in October and November, on top of the 4 hour training session.
  • All mentors will require a background check in order to work with the kids (which should be free, as it is for a volunteer activity)
  • Mentors who successfully complete the program will receive a certificate of achievement

If you have any questions about becoming a mentor, please contact Stephanie at stephanie.hajer@myworldmychoice.org. Hope to hear from you soon!
