Calling all Calgarians
Posted July 22nd, 2009
Despite the wonderful summer weather Calgary's finally receiving, our thoughts are turning towards gearing up for the Fall school semester. We've signed on with several schools in the Calgary area to run the my world, my choice! program, and we would like enthusiastic individuals to apply to be a mentor! Why become a mentor for the program? Well for starters, it's a wonderful opportuntity to challenge yourself as well as the students you will be teaching.
Here I am teaching a class on sustainability. I can honestly say I never thought I'd do something like this before, and I can honestly say I loved every minute of it.
You will be trained about sustainability, given an awareness of how we make an impact on our world, and how our choices shape our future. You will be empowered with knowledge to share with your students, your friends, your families, and your communities. You will meet a lot of great people who share enthusiasm, not apathy, to make a difference. And most of all, you will have a great time doing it.
The program will run over a month in Fall, where you will donate some time to run some activities and simulations with classes to teach the students key concepts about sustainability. From there you will guide them on projects to make their schools more sustainable, and give them the skills they will keep for a life time to help our world (as well as learn these skills yourself!)
We are hosting a mixer in Calgary for interested individuals to come by, meet the team, and learn exactly what my world, my choice! is about. You will have the opportunity to meet new people, ask lots of questions and sign up to be a mentor for the Fall semester. The event is listed on facebook. Here are the details:
- Where: Jameson's Pub, 17-3802 Brentwood Road NW
- When: Tuesday, July 28th, 2009, after 5:30pm
